Keeping a perpetual journal

The year is going by so quickly! Already seeds and fruits are appearing in my perpetual journal. Recording the plants I see each week in my sketchbook has become a joy. The anticipation when I turn the page and see the blank page of the next week and wonder what I'm going to see that will inspire me to draw it is now one of life's simple pleasures. Some weeks it is just the wild plants I find in and around the garden and other times it is plants I have seen when out and about, and sometimes a mixture - there is always something different to see.

Seeing different things pop up in the garden and watching the seasons change is fascinating. With the cold spring we had this year it took a while for some things to get going. One interesting aspect of perpetual journaling will be seeing how the seasons differ each year.

We joined in with 'no mow May' in our garden and had a lovely selection of flowering grasses, buttercups and daisies.

A few more from the garden.

My local flora group has a series of field meetings throughout the spring and summer, and this is a great opportunity to visit some 'nice' locations with interesting plants.

A lovely trip with the flora group to nice grassland and fen meadow sites in Ancaster.

Airfields are often good places to find some nice plants! A trip to the Imperial War Museum in Duxford for an air show gave me a few things for my journal.
If you would like to see more of these journal pages, I post them each week on Instagram (@lisamason16).
